    TSA Membership Application Procedure

    The following is an excerpt from the TSA Bylaws outlining the membership application process.

    PROCESSING OF APPLICATION

    The ASA application form on this Website serves as the application for membership and should be submitted to the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists at the address shown below. Or, to request an application form, email info@tsa.org.

    • Active. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society on the form titled "Application for Membership".

    • Affiliate. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society on the form titled "Application for Membership".

    • Educational. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society on the form titled "TSA Application for Educational Membership".

    • Medical Student. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society on the form titled "Application for Medical Student Membership" and shall be endorsed by the Director of the training program.

    • Resident. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society on the form titled "Application for Membership" and shall be endorsed by the Director of the training program.

    • Honorary. Nominations for honorary membership shall be in writing and forwarded to the Membership Committee.

      Nominations shall specifically set forth the qualifications of the candidate and be supported by the signature of three active members of this Society who are personally acquainted with the member.

      Upon approval, the Membership Committee shall submit the nomination with its recommendations to the House of Delegates. A two-thirds vote of the seated members of the House of Delegates shall be necessary for election to honorary membership.

      Members of this Society elected to honorary membership in the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc. automatically become honorary members of this Society.

    • Retired. An application shall be submitted to the Secretary of this Society stating the facts by which the applicant is eligible for such membership. This application shall not require any endorsements.

    • Active Disabled. Active disabled members of this Society meeting the requirements of paragraph 1.136 shall at their request be placed in active disabled membership status. When they resume active practice they must so notify the Secretary of the Society and shall thereupon be reinstated as active members.

    • Change of Status. Any member wishing to change his or her category shall submit a new application through the Secretary of this Society to the Board of Directors for its consideration.

    APPROVAL OF APPLICATIONS

    All applicants shall be investigated by the Membership Committee of the Board of Directors, who shall recommend acceptance or rejection to the Board of Directors. A member shall be elected by a majority vote of the Board of Directors of this Society.

    RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES

    Active and Active Disabled. Active and Active Disabled Members of this Society shall be entitled to full voting privileges.

    Affiliate, Resident, Honorary, and Retired. These members shall be entitled to attend meetings and to participate in all functions of the Society, including membership on committees, except that they shall not serve as officers, delegates, or other officials and shall not be entitled to vote, except at meetings of committees on which they serve.

    Life. These members shall have all the privileges of active members but shall not pay dues or assessments.

    AGREEMENT OF MEMBERS

    By making application for membership or by continuing membership in this Society, each member agrees to abide by and be bound by the Articles and Bylaws of this Society and to abide by the Statement of Policy of the Texas and American Societies of Anesthesiologists, Inc., and the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association.

    MAINTENANCE OF OTHER MEMBERSHIPS

    Required Membership of American Society of Anesthesiologists. Each active and affiliate member of this Society shall be required to maintain membership in the active and affiliate categories, respectively, of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc.

    Active and resident members of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., upon transfer of their location of principal professional activities to the State of Texas, shall make written application for membership in this Society within ninety days thereafter.

    Failure to Maintain Another Membership. Upon receipt of written notice from the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Inc., that a member of this Society is not a member of such organization, the Secretary of this Society shall give written notice to such member that he or she will be dropped from membership in this Society unless he or she regains membership and gives evidence thereof to the Secretary within sixty days.

    Upon receipt of notice after the sixty day grace period from such organization that a member of this Society has been dropped or expelled from membership in such organization, the Secretary shall drop such member from the membership rolls of this Society and shall notify him thereof.
