SENATE BILL 406 AND ADOPTED MEDICAL BOARD RULES IMPROVE PATIENT ACCESS, MAINTAIN PATIENT SAFETY, and CONFIRM PHYSICIAN DELEGATION AND SUPERVISION OF CRNAs
Great news, the Texas Medical Board has adopted rules required by the passage of Senate Bill 406 and confirmed that the current Texas Medical Board rules related to the practice of nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are sufficient and make clear that CRNAs must act under the delegation and supervision of a physician. There is still no independent practice for CRNAs in Texas. (Read more)

Perhaps the most gratifying function of this role is the presentation of the plaque of appreciation to the past president. I’ve looked back through the history of our Society. I found very few instances where one president has had the honor of bestowing this plaque to a colleague from the same group or department. Well, most of you know that Marty and I are at UT Southwestern together...

A. H. “Buddy” Giesecke, Jr.:
Dr. Adolph H. “Buddy” Giesecke, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Anesthesiology and Pain Management, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas, died on Christmas Eve, 2011.
Dr. Giesecke, whose remarkable career spanned more than five decades, is considered an icon in the field of anesthesiology.
He has been recognized for his many accomplishments. He received numerous awards and honors, including the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists and Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Trauma Anesthesia and Critical Care Society.
